The Piscine is the selection process to begin the programming programme at 42 Barcelona. It consists of:
- A challenge lasting 26 consecutive days of in-person sessions, completely free of charge, on campus.
- Through daily projects, candidates have the opportunity to see if they are a good fit for 42’s methodology and way of learning.
- An immersive programming experience, 7 days a week, day and night, alongside many others in exactly the same situation.
- Every Friday, tests are held.
- Every weekend involves group work.
- There is no fixed attendance schedule, although the times for the tests are set.
Throughout the ‘Piscine’, your compatibility with the methodology will be assessed.
To this end, over the course of the 26 days you’ll find yourself in an environment of uncertainty, with an unfamiliar intranet, lots of written documentation, daily projects, tests and much more… However, none of these things is strictly compulsory to pass the ‘Piscine’.
Whether it’s the tests, projects or the various events, it’s entirely up to you. What does this mean? Basically, it means that:
If you complete all the tests, it doesn’t guarantee you’ll pass the ‘Piscine’, and if you don’t complete any tests, it doesn’t mean you can’t pass it.
The ‘Piscine’ assesses your decision-making to see whether or not it’s compatible with 42 Barcelona’s methodology. You’ll encounter various situations where you’re unsure of the best course of action, and in most cases the 42 team won’t give you the answers, as the ‘Piscina’ is designed so that you – like everyone else taking part – can arrive at your own answers.
Above all, you must be aware that: The ‘Piscine’ is not a technical test.
The purpose of the ‘Piscina’ is simply for you to decide whether 42’s methodology and learning approach suit you or not.
Due to all these characteristics:
The ‘Piscine’ is the most intense period of the entire 42 programme.
For this reason, it is recommended that you make yourself as available as possible for it. Just like the programming course, the ‘Piscina’ can be combined with work; however, to get the full experience and ‘learn to learn’ at 42, it is advisable to devote as much time to it as you possibly can.
Jumping into the ‘Piscine’ in three steps
To sign up for a ‘Piscina’ if you’re doing so from home, you need to follow these steps:
- Register on our application website.
- Pass a couple of logic tests, which you’ll start on the same website where you register.
- Once you have the results, if you’ve passed, continue with the process until you’re asked to select a ‘Piscine’.
