The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is hosting a new edition of the MareNostrum Hackathon, an event that brings together participants from different backgrounds to develop projects and explore new applications of high-performance computing. For its 8th edition, 42 Barcelona Fundación Telefónica is joining the initiative as a partner.
Throughout the hackathon, participants will work from the BSC facilities, where they will have access to high-performance computing resources to develop and test their ideas. Among them will be a team of 42 Barcelona students, taking part with Leaffliction, a project developed during the Outer Core, the specialisation stage at 42 Barcelona.
42 Barcelona talent takes part in the hackathon
Taking part in the initiative will give the team the opportunity to put the knowledge they have acquired throughout their journey at 42 into practice and tackle a real-world technological challenge, working with cutting-edge resources and technology.
The experience will also allow the students to further develop skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and autonomous learning, while gaining first-hand experience of one of Europe’s leading supercomputing centres.
Connecting education, innovation and technology
For 42 Barcelona, taking part in the MareNostrum Hackathon is an opportunity to bring the talent developed on campus closer to one of Barcelona’s leading scientific and technological ecosystems.
The collaboration with BSC reflects 42’s commitment to a learning approach based on practice, collaboration and problem-solving. Through challenges and experiences like this, students can take their knowledge beyond the campus and apply it to real-world technological situations and challenges.
Initiatives such as the MareNostrum Hackathon also help build connections between tech talent and the organisations driving innovation and the development of new technologies.

During the hackathon, teams will have the opportunity to experiment, collaborate and develop new solutions by making use of BSC’s high-performance computing capabilities.
For 42 Barcelona students, it is also an opportunity to continue learning beyond the campus and experience first-hand a leading environment for research and supercomputing.
